Wholesale quantity breaks for B2B buyers on Shopify

Tab Promo can limit a quantity-tier discount to B2B checkouts with the B2B company customer condition, so company buyers get, say, $5 off each unit at 5+ and $10 off at 10+, while retail shoppers pay your normal prices. The B2B wholesale tiers template sets this up as an automatic discount without changing product prices or your Shopify catalogs. The condition checks whether a checkout is a company purchase; it does not single out one company or location.

Examples

Template ladder

B2B company customer → 5+ units $5 off each, 10+ units $10 off each (counted per variant)

A company buyer ordering 12 of one $30 variant gets $10 off each, $120 off in total. A retail shopper with the same cart pays the full $360.

Case breaks across a collection

B2B company customer, Coffee collection: 12+ → 10% off, 24+ → 15% off (counted across all eligible items)

10 bags of one roast plus 14 of another reach 24, so all 24 bags get 15% off.

Wholesale minimum

B2B company customer: Minimum / maximum quantity, minimum 12 per product

A company buyer with 10 of one product cannot check out until they add 2 more. Retail carts are not affected.

Separate retail offer

B2B company customer set to Not B2B, Cart subtotal at least $100 → 10% off the order

Retail shoppers get 10% off orders over $100; company purchases do not.

Setup

How to set it up.

  1. Start from "B2B wholesale tiers". Click Create campaign and pick B2B wholesale tiers. It creates an automatic discount with a draft rule: B2B company customer is Is B2B, and a Product fixed-amount discount with 5+ → $5 off and 10+ → $10 off each unit, counted per variant.
  2. Edit the tiers. Add up to 10 tiers in ascending order, each with a Min quantity and an Amount off per unit (or a percentage, using a Product percentage discount). Choose Quantity counted by: each variant separately, across variants of the same product, or across all eligible items.
  3. Choose the products. Under Discount applies to, keep All products or pick Selected items or Exclude items by collection, product or variant.
  4. Add a minimum order if you need one. Add a second rule with the Minimum / maximum quantity action and the B2B company customer condition to require minimums or case packs from company buyers only.
  5. Preview a B2B order, then publish. Run Preview on a recent company order and on a retail order to confirm only the B2B order gets the tier. Set the rule to Active, then open Publish and click Publish now.

Good to know

Where it stops.

  • The B2B company customer condition is yes or no: is this checkout a company purchase. It cannot target one company, one company location or one catalog.
  • Tab Promo does not create catalogs, price lists or contract prices. The tier discount comes off the price already on the cart line, which for a company buyer may be a catalog price.
  • The discount shows as a line discount at checkout, not as a lower unit price on your product pages.
  • A/B tests (Growth plan) leave B2B checkouts out: rules being tested do not apply to company purchases.

FAQ

Common questions.

Will retail customers see the wholesale discount?

No. With the B2B company customer condition set to Is B2B, only checkouts Shopify marks as company purchases get the tiers. Retail checkouts pay normal prices.

Does this replace Shopify B2B catalogs or price lists?

No. Catalogs set a fixed price per company location. Tab Promo adds quantity-based discounts at checkout, on top of whatever price the line already has.

Can different companies get different tiers?

Not by company. The B2B condition only knows that the checkout is a company purchase. To split buyers into groups, tag their customer records and add a Customer tag condition next to B2B company customer.

Can I require wholesale minimums or case packs?

Yes. Add a Minimum / maximum quantity rule with the B2B company customer condition. Shopify blocks checkout with your message until the cart meets it.

Can I A/B test wholesale pricing?

No. A/B tests are for direct-to-consumer checkouts; company purchases are excluded from every test.

Do I need Shopify Plus?

Tab Promo's plans don't require Shopify Plus. The B2B condition only matches checkouts Shopify treats as company purchases, so your store needs Shopify's B2B features set up.
