Attribution and reporting
When a sale counts as an upsell or bundle sale, how refunds are handled, what each report shows, and what the reports deliberately do not claim.
Tab Upsell & Bundles only counts sales it can tie to an offer it showed. This page explains exactly what that means, so you can defend the numbers you read.
Upsell and Bundle results are tracked separately. Do not add their totals together as if they were one attribution chain.
When an upsell sale counts
An order line counts as an upsell sale only when all of the following hold:
- the shopper had a valid view of the offer card — at least half of it on screen for at least half a second while the page was visible;
- the item was added to the cart from that card, so the cart line carries the card’s private tracking properties;
- the shopper clicked or added it from the card, and the order was placed within 7 days of that interaction;
- the final order contains that variant.
An item the shopper added any other way — from its own product page, a collection, or search — is not counted as an upsell sale, even if they had seen the card. The 7-day attribution window is the same for every store.
The upsell discount works differently from attribution: it applies whenever a product that triggers the rule is in the cart, however the add-on got there. A discounted line that wasn’t added from a card is discounted but not counted.
When a bundle sale counts
Bundle lines are counted when the order contains a complete bundle bought through a bundle card, or completed from the cart with the bundle cart block or drawer embed. Lines added to complete a set from the cart are recorded as Complete bundles.
If one sold line could match both an upsell and a bundle, it counts once: a quantity bundle first, then a fixed bundle, then an upsell.
Refunds
Each refund is recorded as its own negative entry against the original order line, for the refunded line subtotal. The original sale stays on record. Net sales can therefore go down after the order date, and a fully refunded period can show a net total below zero.
What the reports show
- Analytics — sales, orders and units for Upsell or Bundle, by campaign or by product, inside your plan’s history: 90 days on Free and Starter, 365 on Optimize, 730 on Scale.
- Home — offer sales for the period: paid orders that contained one of your offers, after refunds.
- Campaign performance — for upsells: Card views, Clicks, Added to cart with rates, and Sales per view. For bundles: Bundle views, Bundles added and Complete bundles.
- Order evidence — each order line labelled Add-on, Bundle or Quantity bundle, so you can open the order in Shopify and check it.
Exports
From Home and from a campaign’s Performance page you can export order evidence, performance, the attribution ledger and the bundle ledger as CSV. Each batch holds up to 25,000 rows on Free and Starter, 100,000 on Optimize and 500,000 on Scale; Download next batch continues from the same snapshot until every row is out. The attribution ledger includes an attribution type for each upsell line.
What the reports never claim
Attributed sales are not incremental sales: some of those purchases would have happened anyway. The app reports what sold with your offers and does not label anything as lift, because no controlled experiment stands behind the numbers.
Billing follows the same honesty: paid plans are a flat monthly price with no limits on orders, and no share of sales. Free covers 50 Online Store orders every 30 days and never charges automatically.
